• A cascade of friends for Rex Cabot Wilson.

When we learned that a rock 'n' roll fixture in our community had fallen ill and lapsed into a coma we were shocked, then concerned, and within hours, joined in a common purpose to help Rex Cabot Wilson. A rock guitarist, mentor, motivator, husband and Guitar Center employee, Rex has commanded many rock stages over the years and made ten times as many friends and fans.

When we heard he was in serious condition, the Bar Pilots immediately took to the internet's social media to let everyone know that we would be dedicating our next show and any tips collected to his needs. This gesture seemed to spark a fire in the music community of Vancouver and Portland and before we knew it, Christine Ann Munchalfen, Cat McGinnis and Ginger Caviness, movers in the local live music biz, had orchestrated a benefit for Rex with the help of Gary, owner of Cascade Bar and Grill.

With so much talent and so many musicians wanting to help, the list of bands added quickly. The Bar Pilots managed to stay in the mix and ended up with the 10:15pm slot, not really sure what would be left after an entire day of rock bands riffing dollar bills through their amps. Those that stayed to the end were not disappointed. We dedicated our set and the money we'd collected to Rex over a live video feed, then we shook loose the ceiling tiles over the dance floor and pummeled the heavy metal leftovers with a serious dose of classic rock and originals that wafted through the venue with the scent of muscle cars, drive-ins and Bacardi 151. We hear Rex was very pleased with the whole night. Look for us at Cascade in the coming months, by popular demand it turns out.
